What to do in Oporto

If you want to visit Porto, there are a number of things you can do to make the most of your trip. Explore the Old Town: Porto has a beautiful Old Town, called Ribeira, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll through the narrow streets and admire the historic buildings and bridges. Among the Porto sights, also visit the Porto Cathedral: This Gothic cathedral, called the Sé, is one of the most iconic sights of Porto. It offers a beautiful view of the city and an impressive interior. In addition, Porto is known for its Port wine, and there are plenty of vineyards in the area where you can taste and buy. A visit to one of these vineyards is a must-do when you are in Porto. Also take a boat trip on the Douro River: The Douro River runs through Porto and offers beautiful views of the city and the surrounding landscape. A river cruise is a fun way to explore the city. Furthermore, Casa da Música is a modern concert hall and cultural center in Porto. It has a striking architecture and hosts a variety of concerts and events.

Try the local cuisine: Porto bezienswaardigheden has a unique cuisine with many fish dishes and traditional dishes. Try some of the local specialties such as francesinha, bacalhau and the delicious pasteis de nata. More of a beach lover? Porto has some beautiful beaches nearby, such as Matosinhos and Foz. These are easy to reach by public transport (take the historic Tram 1 to Foz for example) and offer a welcome break from the city.

Churches in Porto

Porto has a rich history and therefore beautiful churches that are worth visiting. The most beautiful churches in Porto are the Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto). This is one of the oldest and most important churches in Porto. The Gothic cathedral dates back to the 12th century and has a beautiful interior with numerous paintings and statues. Igreja de São Francisco is known for its rich baroque interior, decorated with gold leaf and azulejos (ceramic tiles). Igreja dos Clérigos is a church known for its tall tower, the Torre dos Clérigos, which is an iconic part of Porto's skyline. The interior is also beautiful, with impressive ornaments and statues.

Finally, the Igreja de Santa Clara is less well known than the other churches in Porto, but is no less impressive. The church has a beautiful baroque facade and an ornate interior with numerous frescoes and sculptures. There is a lot to discover in Porto, but the above sights are some of the highlights that you should not miss.
